Gas can cause a baby discomfort and the level of this discomfort will vary from one baby to another but there is one thing for certain; a baby that doesn’t have a problem with getting rid of gas will be a more contented child.

The best way to get rid of gas, if your baby can’t do so itself, is to burp it.

Burping your baby and getting rid of gas can also help reduce colic problems.

One of the most common techniques to burp your baby is to simply put your baby up on your shoulder and pat it in the middle of the back around about the same area where the stomach is.
This will help the gas to come up as your baby’s head rests on your shoulder. It might pay to drape a cloth over your shoulder as the burp is often followed by the regurgitation of food.

Another technique that works equally well is to lay your baby across your knees, face down, and once again pat relatively firmly in the middle of the back.
This technique is excellent for babies who are unable to be burped well enough across the shoulder in the upright position.

You can also burp your baby in a seated position by using one hand to support if from the stomach while patting in the middle of the back but this technique should only be used once your baby can hold its head up on its own.

As with the seated position the next technique requires that the baby can hold its head up on its own and this technique involves bouncing the baby up and down on your knee while assisting it with an upward patting motion on the back.

Try using all of these techniques until you find the one that is most suitable and gives the best results for your child.

It is important that you choose baby bedding that is not only attractive but is also safe for your baby and this is determined by the materials that the bedding is made out of.

Contrary to what a lot of people believe there can be considerable differences in the quality and safety of bedding even though there are strict regulations in place to determine whether bedding is safe or not.

Often the lower quality baby bedding products that are sourced from some overseas countries aren’t up to a suitable standard to ensure that your baby is going to be safe at all times.

While the authorities try to regulate against the introduction of materials that could be detrimental to your child’s health there have been many occasions over recent years where products such as baby bedding and other baby related products have proven to be unsafe even after they have been on the market for some time.

It is usually best to buy from reputable stores where they try to maintain a good level of quality with all their products and only sell child care products and baby bedding where they know that they have been tested for safety including such things as flammability and also for other factors such as ensuring that the fibers don’t irritate your child or get inhaled.

There is also the concern that some products are made of materials or have dyes and colours that could affect your child’s health.

Many more manufacturers are using natural fibres in their products these days that are less likely to cause allergic reactions to the sensitive skin of young babies.

Natural fibres often allow your baby’s skin to breathe a lot better while they are sleeping as opposed to synthetic products and that is another reason why more and more people are choosing natural bedding products rather than their synthetic counterparts.

The size and the design of the bedding can also improve safety by allowing you to be able to tuck in the corners of the bedding insuring that it doesn’t get wrapped around your child especially once they get little bit older and start moving about in the bed.

With a big percentage of households having a pet in them there is cause for concern when a new baby comes into the family.

There are a number of issues that arise and these will need to be addressed to keep your baby safe if you have pets.

Animals can become very jealous when there is a new member in the house and many children get injured every year by the family pet simply because of this reason.

Dogs are obviously more dangerous to babies than cats but even a cat can cause harm with its claws and injury to the baby’s eyes from scratches can have ongoing consequences.

Cats on the other hand might be happy enough to have the baby in the family but cats also have a tendency to ’snuggle’ up to people and it is not uncommon for them to want to sleep beside a baby too.
This presents a problem where a cat can actually smother the baby and in doing so stop it from breathing. As cats have the ability to jump and climb onto and into almost anything even a crib a baby isn’t safe from a cat that wants to sleep with your child.

You will need to monitor the behavior of any pets in the house when there is a new baby present and if there are problems then steps will need to be taken to make sure the baby remains safe at all times.

In some circumstances it might be necessary to find a new home for the pet at least until the baby is old enough to be safe within its presence.

The more pets you have in the house the more cause you will have for concern. You can never be too cautious when it comes to the safety of your baby. When you are visiting friends or family who have pets take all the precautions necessary and keep your child in sight at all times and well away from any potential harm.
